Deaths Mar 1950 Barnstaple 7a 333 Blackmore Samuel J aged 90

Death certificate
Death on 2nd March 1950 at 8 Belmont Avenue, Ilfracombe
Samuel John Blackmore, male, 90 years.
Occupation was Inspector of Iron and Steel (London County Council) Retired.
The informant was F.G. Blackmore, daughter, of same address on 3rd March 1950.
- The informant was almost certainly Nellie Gertrude.

A family tree with the Skyrme family (descendants of Samuel's brother William Henry) only lists three children.

The electoral roll for Ilfracombe in 1945 lists Samuel J and Nellie G at 8 Belmont Avenue.

Comment on Death Certificate
The death certificate was not totally conclusive, but as he worked for the London County Council (as did his brother George Frederick), it pointed to being the correct person. He was certainly living in London in 1920 [when his father died]. However, see below regarding his army papers that contain a copy of the same death certificate and so prove that this was the correct person. Also, the funeral notice in the Ilfracombe Journal refers to Mr R Garnish, nephew - son of sister Lucy.

Electoral Register 1945 marked QD June Barnstaple Division
Ilfracombe (West Ward)
8 Belmont Avenue
4434 Blackmore Samuel J
4435 Blackmore Nellie G

Confirmation has been obtained through the article in the Ilfracombe Chronicle on 11th March 1950.
OLD INHABITANT'S DEATH
Former London County Council Inspector
One of Ilfracombe's oldest inhabitants died on Friday at the age of 90 in the person of Mr Samuel John Blackmore, of 8 Belmont Avenue. A native of Norwich, Mr Blackmore served in the R.A.O.C. for 26 years, attaining the rank of armament sergeant major, and was later employed as an inspector of iron and steel by the London County Council.
He leaves two daughters, Miss N.G. Blackmore and Mrs T. Pearson.
The funeral took place on Monday, a service being conducted by the Rev. R. E. Falkner. The interment was in Score Cemetery. The immediate mourners were : Mr J. A. C. Blackmore, grandson; Mr T. Pearson, son in law; Mr R. Garnish, nephew; and Mr J. McIvor (representing Mrs McIvor, granddaughter).
Wreaths were sent : Nellie, Hilda, Tom, and Valerie; Jean, grandchildren and great-grandchildren ; Reg and Mabel; Lois and Will, Edie and Fred; Mr & Mrs Cutler; Edie, Florrie, and Nellie; Mrs Channing, Mrs King, Mrs Beer, and Mrs Burnett; P. M. Sluman; Mr and Mrs Tucker and Audrey; and friends and neighbours.

The pointers to confirmation of the correct Samuel
- born in Norwich (close to anyway)
- served in RAOC (see censuses)
- R Garnish was a nephew
- N G Blackmore was a daughter (Nellie Gertrude)
- see discharge and pension papers from army - includes the same death certificate
- Valerie is Hilda's daughter,

- JAC Blackmore is son of Samuel Clive (John Alastair Clive)
- JAC Blackmore married Daphne Cutler, so Mr & Mrs Cutler are likely to be her parents
- but who is "Mrs McIvor, granddaughter"?
Possible? daughter Valerie married and lived in Wandsworth. Doesn't seem right, see birth below

No births of children from Sep 1911 (when mother's maiden name was listed)

There is a family called Blackmore at the same address in Ilfracombe as Samuel was in 1950 - but, after speaking to them, it appears to be a total coincidence!
