There are no obvious birth entries for an Ellen Elizabeth Ashley, nor any Ashley in the Richmond area. Nor are there any likely candidates on the 1861 or 1871 census.
Between 1855 and 1865 there were only two births of an Ellen Elizabeth in Richmond, Surrey

There are many possible death entries, but few for exactly Ellen E of the correct age. But I was told by a descendant of William Henry Blackmore that "Uncle Sam and Aunt Nell" lived in Ilfracombe. This led to one particular entry - the one I had already marked as the closest fit to name and age.

Ellen Elizabeth Blackmore, Female, 70 years, Wife of Samuel John Blackmore Army Pensioner. The informant was S J Blackmore, Widower of Deceased, present at the death, of 8 Belmont Avenue Ilfracombe. The death was registered on 26th April 1931

Since then I have found that in 1945 only Samuel John Blackmore and daughter Nellie Gertrude were living at 8 Belmont Avenue.
