Baptism in Ashreigney Registers (next parish, south of Burrington)

Marriage Confirmed by inspection of parish records. However, it appeared that the parish record was incorrect and that the surname was RENDLE and not BENDLE. The burial of her parents shows the name as Rendle, and the IGI gives 3 baptisms for Rendle, including Grace. The writing on the parish register was unclear and could show either Rendle or Bendle. But it is clear that the register was completed at a later date - at the end of the year as the register lists all marriages followed by all baptisms followed by all burials and there is no break between them on the page - hence likely to have been copied out from another source. After someone else looked at the registers again, the name still looked like Bendle, but not impossible to be Rendle.
On 25 October 2004, I inspected the registers again, as well as the Bishops Transcripts. By careful comparison of the first letter with other B on the page of the register, it was clear that the first letter was not a B. It was, however, quite close to another R on the page. There is a small mark, probably a slight splash of ink that provides the obvious assumption that the letter was a B, but this mark is totally separate from the writing of the letter. The BT appeared to be more clearly Rendle. This inspection was carried out with one of the archivists who agreed that the first letter was not a B and almost certainly an R.
Hence, I am now absolutely confident that the marriage was between James Blackmore and Grace Rendle.
