Extract from the family history I can remember that my Grandmother who, although her given name was Mary Louisa was called Polly as a nickname. I understand that Polly had been a nickname for Mary for generations back and it makes about as much sense as me being called Peggy, when my proper name is Margaret. We shall call her Polly from now on and I do know that she first saw the light of day in 1866 According to birth certificate April 18,1863 . I have worked this out from her age in 1949, the year she passed away.
Mary married James BUTTERFIELD, son of John BUTTERFIELD and Margaret CLEMENTS, on 25 Feb 1890 in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, England.1 (James BUTTERFIELD was born on 9 Feb 1858 in Great Urswick, Lancashire, England 2 and died on 11 Mar 1925 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.)
