The Argus (Melbourne) 17 Sept 1918
Blackmore - Mr & Mrs Alexander Blackmore, of Maldon, have been officially notified that their son, Lance Corporal Albert Henry Blackmore was killed in action in France on September 1. He enlisted in July 1915 when 21 years of age. He won the Military Medal. Less than two months ago he was severely gassed.

From Marianne
"Albert died on 1st September 1918, fighting the battle for Mont St.Quentin, France. This was a very important battle. The taking of this hill gave a panorama to all the enemy sites. This, and a few other battles, caused the forward march which ended the War some 10 weeks later.
(The battle of Mont St.Quentin and some of the soldiers involved has been recently written of in the book "Men of Mont St.Quentin" - author: Dr.Peter Stanley - Head, Centre for Historical Research, National Museum of Australia. I came across the book by accident in a book store last month, and found Albert's photo in it! I bought the book for Dad as his Christmas present, and arranged for the author to send an inscription to paste inside the front cover.)
Albert was awarded a posthumous Military Medal for bravery for his actions in this battle.
I have not been able to find Albert's birth date"
