Harry fought with the Royal Fusiliers in the First World War and suffer ed from mustard gas behind the sight which caused him eye trouble throu ghout his life. He worked as a plumber for the Chapman Estate ( owned by Lord Winterton ) i n Stepney and was based in a builders yard at 200 Cable St, now Hawksmoor Mews. He later worked as a security officer for Bonallack, then Truman Brewer ies, in premises on the corner of Cable St. and Bett St.
