From the 1867 Will of John Horsfall
"Money to be paid for the maintenance and education of any infant child of my daughter".
Janey and John Horsfall received an education at The Friends School in quaker Lane, Rawdon, Leeds. They were both admitted as boarders on Friday Dec 15th 1882, shortly after the death of their mother. The school, founded 1832, was also accepting children of parents who were not members of the Society of Friends - though charging higher fees (£26 per annum per child). When admitted Janey was already 14, the normal age to be working in most ordinary families

In the army records of son Verdi she is also stated as J.L. Earnshaw (mother) - again pointing to her using the middle name of Lindley

Janey married Heman EARNSHAW, son of Thomas EARNSHAW and Elizabeth BRIGGS, on 26 May 1890 in West Ham, Essex, England. (Heman EARNSHAW was born on 19 May 1867 in Midgley Nr Halifax, Yorkshire, England, baptised on 17 Mar 1875 in Luddenden, Nr Halifax, Yorkshire, England, died on 12 Feb 1945 in Dagenham, Essex, England and was buried on 22 Feb 1945 in City Of London Cemetery, London, England 1.)
