General Notes:
Name obtained from birth certificate of daughter (Florence Lavinia)
Address was 14 Dundee Road (Plaistow?) at time of Florence Lavinia's marriage (1914) Address was 19 Ethel Road Plaistow at Rhoda's birth (1890) Address was 125 Freemason's Road, West Ham at birth of Florence Lavinia (1893) and Jessie (1896)
Birth register Jun qtr 1856, Stepney, vol 1c P458 birth on 22 Mar 1856 at 49 Hardinge Street, Ratcliff, Stepney Walter, Male, Arthur Joseph Gibson, Lavinia Gibson formerly Smith, Seaman Merchant Service. Informant Lavinia Gibson, mother of same address on 29 April 1856. Originally thought to be the wrong Walter, as his marriage certificate shows father as George Gibson. But the Gibson family have both of the original certificates and these show his father as Arthur Joseph on the birth certificate and George on the marriage certificate. Hence Arthur is the father. I suspect that Arthur died and his wife remarried and that maybe George was Arthur's brother as they had the same occupation. Alternatively, the vicar heard the name George when told his name was Joseph (as he seems to have used)

The family have details of the grave as 93707 in square 37 (contradicts the other information that I have) - rechecked with cemetery and 93716 is correct

Probate Index 1940 Gibson Walter of 14 Dundee Road Plaistow Essex died 4 Feb 1940 at Central Home Leytonstone Essex. Administration (with will) London 5 March to William Walter Marshall Gibson civil servant (of 11 Brook Crescent London E4) and Rhoda Gibson spinster (of 15 Lawton Road Leyton Essex). Effects £558 13s. He didn't name an executor or residuary legatee and died a widower. The will was dated 7 April 1937 and hand written by him on a standard form.
He left insurance policies to William Walter Gibson and the deeds of the grave at City of London Cemetery (93716 in square 37) left in the care of William Walter. His wife's clothes and jewellery were left to daughters Rhoda and Jessie. He asked to be buried in grave 93716 "with my dear wife". To his daughter Jessie Gibson he left "the large portrait of Ernest Gibson" and two other pictures, medals, photo of him and his wife, glass and crockery and the contents of post office savings bank account. The rest was to be divided between "you all whitch you think best" - This suggested that Jessie was not yet married (correct, as she married in 1938) - Descendants of William Walter Marshall Gibson now have the portrait of Ernest (since the death of Jessie)
