General Notes:
Wedding in West Ham register volume 4a, page 16 (1890 Qtr : Jun) to Janey Lindley. Entry 278 at Holy Trinity Barking Road in county of Essex (modern day Canning Town). His address was given as Luddenden at that time
Birth in Halifax Register Vol 9a page 511 (Jun 1867) - mother's name Briggs on new GRO indexes
Birth entry in register 291 registered 24 June 1867 - address was Lane Ends, Midgley. Mother's name Elizabeth, formerly BRIGGS! This came as a surprise as I had presumed it was SUNDERLAND. His son John Sunderland Earnshaw and grandson John Kenneth Sunderland Earnshaw, together with the fact that his father in law was John Sunderland all pointed to this. See father Thomas Earnshaw for the explanation.
Christened at St Mary the Virgin church in Luddenden in 1875. All 5 children of Thomas were baptised at Luddenden St Mary on 17th March 1875. Probably because he had married the daughter of the Verger and had previously been non-conformist. Entry numbers 1647-1651 (on pages 206 and 207) in descending order of age Christening entry says Maria's birth was 12 January 1864, birth certificate says February Baptism entries/images on Ancestry Halifax, Chapelry of Luddenden, page 206, 1875 1647 1875 March 17, Maria, Thomas & Elizabeth, Earnshaw, Midgley, Overlooker, born January 12 1864 1648 1875 March 17, Martha, Thomas & Elizabeth, Earnshaw, Midgley, Overlooker, born July 27 1865 page 207 1649 1875 March 17, Heman, Thomas & Elizabeth, Earnshaw, Midgley, Overlooker, born 19th May 1867 1650 1875 March 17, Laura, Thomas & Elizabeth, Earnshaw, Midgley, Overlooker, born February 25th 1869 1651 1875 March 17, Johnny Sunderland, Thomas & Elizabeth, Earnshaw, Midgley, Overlooker, born March 5 1871 - all baptised by Rev James Nelson

Buried in the City of London Cemetery with his wife. I have confirmed this with the cemetery. Interment was at City of London Cemetry, Grave 95843, Square 114
Entry in the CoL Cemetery Register Burial Register 83, Jul 1943-April 1945, page 350 414544, 1945 Feb, 22, Heman Earnshaw, 257 Sheppey Road Dagenham, Male, 77 years, death reg in Barking Ilford, removed from parish Barking, grave square 114, grave 95843, grant 23510, 3 class private grave, General (not consecrated)
Why the name Heman? Heman is a biblical name "Of Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:" 1 Chronicles 25:4. This could suggest a non-conformist background and explain the late baptism in CofE of Heman and his siblings in 1875 - after his father got remarried to the daughter of the Verger.

I always presumed it sounded like Heeman, but maybe it was more like Hemman (with the H dropped when his father gave the names to the enumerator).
