Based on Ancestry notice boards he may be the illegitimate son of Dorothy Eva Hinton - who later married a Charles Harris. A public tree on Ancestry.co.uk has John Murphy Hinton and gives his date of birth as 23 March 1911 - so almost certainly the correct person. Both contacted to see if there is a fit. Family information seemed to confirm this is correct. The birth certificate now confirms this.
