From Hunslet Rugby League Football Club web site - hunslet.org.uk Jack Walkington, a full back, has won as much fame as any Hunslet player, even including members of the four-cups team of 1908, the year of the "Terrible Six" forwards. He is an accomplished defender, his play being especially noticable on muddy ground, when his catching and fielding are clean and sure. Twenty-six years of age, he is in business for himself as a cabinet maker, and last season his work prevented him on going on two trips to France. His chief honours are a cup medal won at Wembley in 1934 and the captaincy of Yorkshire. He is 5 ft 9in. in height and weighs 12 st.
Walkington was selected for a Great Britain tour but did not go when the selectors changed their minds! He was Hunslet's first coach and was the last Hunslet captain to lead a side to victory at Wembley. Many older supporters talk about the kicking battles which were a feature of the game at that time and at which Walkington excelled.
