bullet  General Notes:

From birth certificate of Walter Gibson - see Arthur Joseph Gibson for explanation of confusion

After talking to Hazel, who suggested that Fanny Agnes Gibson (nee Potter) married twice and hence William Walter Gibson was actually William Walter Marshall Gibson - I believed that it could have been Lavinia who married twice - to Mr Marshall. Certainly a William Marshall was a witness at Walter's marriage. However, see 1871 census below. Now found that Elizabeth Abell was married to William Marshall after Humphrey Potter died

HO107/733/1 F10 P13
New Bond Street, St George's Hanover Square, Middlesex
Lavinia Smith, 20, Milliner, Y
- with Jane and Mary Harris
- the "Y" for born in County isn't correct for Lavinia

Or was she at home and called Louisa on the census
Probable entry (correct occupation and daughter Emma matches)

1851 census
HO107/1551 F5 P3
40 Harding Street, Stepney, London (I think this should be Hardinge Street). The street index states that Hardinge Street was formerly Vinegar Lane. A few pages further on (F8 P9) 40 Harding Street appears again!

Arthur Stevens do, Son, , 1m, , Middlesex St George East

Is this the "mystery" George given as father to Walter at his marriage?

I thought this was a mis-transcription from the detailed forms and should be LAVINIA and not Lawrence!!! (In fact on the image the name and condition - Widr - are underlined suggesting a query by the enumerator). Lavinia's age is in the Female column
