John was likely to be one of two people. These were both on the 1851 census, but I can find neither on the 1861 or 1871 censuses other than this person.
-John, son of Jonas and Mary from Royd House, Oxenhope - aged 6 in 1851
-John, son of Joseph and Sally from Sawood, Oxenhope - aged 5 in 1851
-John, son of James and Ann, is on the 1871 census with his wife and inlaws (confirmed from marriage cert). So this John is eliminated.
-John, son of Horsfall and Rebecca, is at home and unmarried in 1871. So again this John is eliminated.

The marriage certificate of John to Mary Ann has confirmed he is the son of Jonas

This is the correct marriage, based on the birth of son Edwin
