MR. A.R. WILTON, NEWLYN.
The funeral of Mr. Albert Roy Wilton, aged 73, of Newlyn took place
recently at St. Peter`s Parish Church. The service was conducted by the
vicar, Rev. Robert Strange. The organist was Mr. Thornley Strick.
Committal followed at Penmount Crematorium, Truro.
Roy was born in Cornwall at St. Germans. It was his job which took
him away from the county for many years. He was a manager for W. H. Smith
at their premises near to Blackpool. About five years before his
retirement Roy managed to transfer to their Penzance branch at Eastern
Green. Just after the outbreak of the Second World War Roy volunteered
for the Royal Marines. He served mainly on board warships, amongst which
were the Renown and Newcastle. He was engaged for long periods of time in
the Atlantic and on the Malta runs. The address at the service was spoken
by a close friend and workmate of Roy, Mr. R. W. Jeffery. He paid great
tribute to the amount of charity work Roy has involved himself in since
returning to Cornwall. Roy is survived by his wife Marjorie, sons Alan
and Robert and daughter Zoe. John and Janet (son and daughter USA).
