THROWN BY COW AND STRUCK BY VAN:- Inquest on Millpool Motor Cyclist.
"Evidence that after a motor cyclist had been thrown off through
coming into collision with a cow on Bodmin Moor, near the entrance to
Greenaburrow Farm, Blisland, he and his machine were run into by a
three-ton van, was given at an inquest at Bodmin yesterday.
The unfortunate man was Gambetta Clifford Wilton (42), of Ellena
Cottage, Millpool, a carpenter employed at Great Hawks Tor clay works,
and he died in Bodmin Hospital from injuries received.
Richard Berey, commercial traveller, of Hayle, said he saw deceased
lying by the roadside with blood on his face. They were discussing taking
him to Bodmin in witness's car when a lorry came around the corner. 'We
tried to stop it, but it was too late,' said witness, who expressed the
view that the lorry driver did all he could as soon as he saw something
 was wrong.
Percy Greenaway, Wall House, Blisland, said he was cycling home
fromwork when Mr.Wilton passed him on his motor cycle at a speed of 25
miles an hour and with his headlights on. Witness saw a cow standing in
the road. A car which was just in front of him stopped and he then
dismounted from his cycle and found deceased lying in the road. 'So far
as I could see he was absolutely flat out,' said Mr.Greenaway. Before
they could move Mr.Wilton a lorry came round the bend.
Sidney John Flower 28, Alexandra Road, Wimbledon, driver of the
lorry, said on seeing a man ....

Gambetta married Florence Penny NOTTLE. (Florence Penny NOTTLE was born in 1909 and died on 9 May 1991 in Bodmin, Cornwall, England.)
